The Katschberg is ready for the skiing season 2009/2010
3rd place for the Katschberg in the international ski area test 2008
220 experienced ski testers (journalists, branch executives, and cable car operators) tested 26 ski areas in the Alps anonymously last winter. Furthermore, the Katschberg won special awards in the categories of ‘friendliest employees’ and ’best ski area signage’. The perfeclty groomed pistes attracted the ski testers’ attention and therefore the ski area Katschberg was additionally awarded with the international seal of quality control.
Snow a certainty
580 modern snow lances can be found in the entire skiing area, standing like tin soldiers ready for combat and saving a third of the energy used by conventional "cannons". This is the Katschberg contribution to the current discussion on climate change and energy efficiency. The modern snow lances can cover 100% of the Katschberg piste area with artificial snow. And very quickly too: skiers and snowboarders can go full swing on the Katschberg after only two days of mechanical snow.
Wide piste
70 km of pistes - of which 10km are marked black (difficult) and 10km are marked blue (easy)- are available at the Katschberg for wedeling and carving, true to the motto: each guest his own track.
Katschis Kids World:
Small holiday-makers are well looked after in Katschis Kids World which is centrally located in the Konigswiese. The mini-jet lift takes the piste fleas upwards where a 300m descent is waiting to be conquered. Katschi, the delightful ski slope mascot, appears along the stretch again and again as a synthetic figure in different costumes, encouraging the young athletes with words of praise.
Easily accessible
The Katschberg can be reached from all directions via the A10, the Tauern motorway. Coming from Karnten simply leave the highway at Rennweg then drive another 5km(5 minutes by car) to one of the big car parks. The journey from Klagenfurt to the skiing area takes 50 minutes, the same distance as from Salzburg. If you are coming from the Mozartstadt then take the exit St. Michael and head up the mountain from the northern flank.
No waiting
16 elevator systems provide the skiers with a comfortable and most importantly fast transport to the peak. The development of the Gamskogelexpress raised the performance of the Katschberg mountain railways to 24.000 persons per hour. All of the big elevator systems are comfortable chair lifts. Long waiting times are unknown at the valley lift stations of the Katschberg.
The A1 on the Aineck
The association of the A1, the new piste of the Aineck, with the West motorway is highly desirable. It leads straight form the tip of the mountain down in to the Salzburgische - 6 long kilometres of constant slope. There is hardly any other valley descent like it in Austria. The first third of the A1 is identical to the previous descent, from then on it follows a completely new route.
Direttissima
One of the most demanding pistes of the Katschberg is the "Direttissima" which does its name justice with a slope of 60-100%. The starting point is reached via the Aineckbahn. The "Direttissima" is one of the longest "black" descents of Austria with 2.500 metres. Numerous world cup level skiers who have already used the Katschberg for training purposes give "Direttissima" the best report.
Nighttime skiing
Often it is almost impossible to make use of everything on offer on the Katschberg. Isn\'t it then great that you can ski at night on Mondays and Thursdays (7.00-9.00pm) on the Konigswiesen-Piste! Of course the day card is also valid during the night skiing period.Hot beats roar out of the music system over the piste adding musical enrichment to the pleasure.
Guaranteed parking spaces
At the Katschberg every guest is guaranteed a parking space, even on (average) peak days. The scouring of individual car parks for a parking space is a thing of the past thanks to the ingenious system which gives information about where which of the in total 3000 parking spaces is free. And because some find it a bit difficult to walk to the next lift armed with ski boots, skis and sticks, the shuttle "Katschis Express" transports the skier there from his parking space, free of charge.
ski resort Katschberg
The ski resort Katschberg has been renowned for its snow-secure and sunny winters for many years. The ski swing Katschberg offers 80 km of great runs. Wonderful slopes of all levels of difficulty connect the provinces of Salzburg and Carinthia. Up to 10 km long runs take you to St. Michael and Rennweg. Winter fun is experienced in St. Margarethen, the village in the little paradise. Those who havent been skiing on the Aineck for some time will find quite a few changes there. In tune with the present trend, a fun park with a half pipe, pro-jump, high-jump and slide have been installed at the Aineck.
In the course of the modernisation of the lifts comfort was considerably increased.
The three ski tows Tschaneck, Gamskogel and Sonnalm were replaced by a 6-passenger and a 4-passenger chairlift. Moreover, the snow making systems were extended so 90% of the slopes can be covered with artificial snow, guaranteeing a snow-security of 100%. |
